RIO VERDE, Ariz. (2/24/18) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team improved to third place Saturday at the Rio Verde Invitational after carding a second-round 293 at the Quail Run Golf Course.

With the addition of the second round, A-State currently has a combined 604 total through 36 holes and sits only one stroke back from second-place Seton Hall. The Red Wolves are just five strokes back from first-place Akron, which registered a 36-hole total of 599.

The Red Wolves have two players among the top-10 individual leaders and another among the top-25. Senior Sarah Childers is tied for second place after carding a 2-under-par 70 for the second round to bring her to a total of 145, which is her best single-round score during the 2017-18 season.

Junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios improved from 15th to tied for ninth place after posting a second-round 73 to bring her to a 36-hole total of 149. Sophomore Grayson Gladden improved from 41st to tied for the 21st position after posting a 74 to total 153 through two rounds.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, junior Beth Ann Compton is tied for 52nd after carding a 78 for the second round to total 159, while senior Emma Miller closed out the second round tied for the 63rd position after registering a second-round 76 for a 161 36-hole total.

The Rio Verde Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the third-and-final round.
