LAREDO, Texas. (03/10/18) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team, led by sophomore Matthew Cole’s seventh-place finish, completed play at the Border Olympics Saturday with a season-best 845 to place second among 17 teams at the Laredo Country Club.

The 68th-ranked Red Wolves finished with a season best 278 for the final 18 holes, ending two strokes behind tournament champion Campbell. In addition to Cole, A-State had two other top-25 individual players among a field of 97. Additionally, all five players competing for the Red Wolves carded third-round scores under par.

Cole posted a four-under-par 68 for the third round that gave him a combined 210 for the entire tournament, his top finish of the 2017-18 season. Junior Joel Wendin carded a third-round 69 to total 212 and finish tied for the 17th position, while sophomore Zan Luka Stirn tied for 21st after posting a third-round 71 to total 214.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, senior Tanner Napier posted a third-round 70 to tie for 38th with a total of 217. Junior Jakub Bares tied for 49th with a total of 219 after carding a 71 for the final round.

The Red Wolves will be back in action Monday, March 19, at the Lone Star Invitational.
