EL DORADO, Ark. (3/26/18) – The 63rd-ranked Arkansas State men’s golf team completed match play at the Mystic Creek Golf Club Sunday, finishing in second place among four teams.

 

The Red Wolves competed against Louisiana Tech in the first round, which A-State won by a 3-2 decision to advance to the championship match against a ULM squad that defeated Little Rock in their first-round match.

 

Senior Kevin Kramarski won his first match of the day by a 5-3 edge, while sophomore Matt Cole was victorious in his match with a 2-1 score. Sophomore Zan Luka Stirn claimed a 6-4 win as well. Junior Joel Wendin battled to a 2-1 defeat in the first round, while junior Jakub Bares dropped his first match by a 4-3 decision.

 

In championship match play, the Red Wolves were able to win two individual matches, but lost three to fall 3-2 to ULM. Cole, who was the only A-State player to win both of his individual matches, gave A-State one second-round victory with a score of 3-2, while Bares won his second-round match by a 4-3 advantage.

 

Also competing for the Red Wolves in the second round, Stirn lost his match by a score of 1-up after competing for 20 holes, while Kramarski and Wendin battled to the 17th hole in their respective matches, before dropping each match with a final 2-up score.

 

The A-State men’s golf team will be back in action on Monday, April 2, at the Arkansas State Bubba Barnett Collegiate.
