SAN MARCOS, Texas (4/7/18) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team saw its two-match win streak snapped on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to Louisiana-Monroe in a Sun Belt Conference match at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on the campus of Texas State University.
The Warhawks gained an early advantage in the match by taking the doubles’ points with victories on courts one and two. Anita Detlava and Berta Masdevall Masip dropped their doubles’ match to start the day, but Sabina Jeresic and Kirsty Venter battled back to even things up a one match each with a 6-4 win on court three. ULM took the deciding court two match, however, with a 7-5 by Teodora Radu and K Silwankowicz over Shelby King and Shannon O'Brien on court two.
In singles’ competition, ULM won each of the three matches that were completed to finish off the 4-0 victory. The Warhawks earned wins on courts two, four and six on the day, each in straight sets. In other matches, King dropped her first set on court one, but had battled back within 5-4 in the second set, Jeresic was up 6-3, 2-0 in court two.
“The scores are deceptive,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “We had chances to win the doubles’ point and we played good tennis in very windy conditions today. This weekend proves that we can play with anyone as long as we are willing to put in the work.”
The Red Wolves return to the courts Saturday, April 14 at Georgia Southern before concluding the regular season the following at Mercer.
