JONESBORO, Ark. (4/11/18) – Three athletes from the Arkansas State track and field squads earned weekly honors for their performances last week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Sophomore Heinrich Herbst earned the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in the 800-meter run at Georgia’s Spec Towns Invitational. He raced to a time of 1:49.59 to place second and his time ranks fifth all-time at A-State while he climbs to second on the SBC performance list. He ranks 15th on the NCAA West Region list and 27th overall nationally following the performance.

Freshman Carter Shell is the SBC Male Field Athlete of the Week after his performance in the long and triple jump at the Spec Towns Invitational. Shell jumped to the SBC lead in the long jump with a leap of 7.69m (25-02.75) to place second in the competition. The jump ranks seventh in program history and qualifies him for the NCAA West Regional as he ranks 11th in the standings and 23rd overall nationally. He also competed in the triple jump posting a leap of 15.04m (49-4.25) to move to second in the league and 42nd in the NCAA West Region.

Junior Caitland Smith claimed the SBC Female Track Athlete of the Week accolade with her performance in the sprints. She raced to a pair of top-10 finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She posted a time of 23.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash, a SBC leading time and fourth-fastest in program history. She clocked a time of 11.96 seconds in the 100-meter dash, the 10th-fastest time in program history and ranks ninth on the SBC performance list.

The A-State Track & Field teams return to action this weekend in Auburn, Ala., for the Tiger Track Classic. The Red Wolves Open is set for April 20-21 at the A-State Track & Field Complex.
