JONESBORO, Ark. (8/14/18) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team has announced its 2018-19 schedule, which will begin Sept. 10-11 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial and includes nine regular-season tournaments leading up to the Sun Belt Conference Championship set for April 15-17.

Including its season opener at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo., the Red Wolves will play five tournaments during the fall. They will also compete in the USA Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-17), Johnie Imes Invitational (Oct. 1-3), UT Arlington Invitational (Oct. 22-23) and Little Rock Golf Classic (Oct. 28-30).

The spring portion of A-State’s schedule will get underway Feb. 22-24 with an appearance at the Rio Verde Invitational. The squad will follow with three additional tournaments, including the Spring Break Shootout (March 11-12), Anuene Spring Break Classic (March 21-23) and Memphis Intercollegiate (April 1-2), before the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

“I am thrilled to announce our schedule for this season,” said A-State head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw. “We have made a few changes from years past, adding the Missouri, South Alabama and UT Arlington tournaments this fall. We also added tournaments at Hawaii and Memphis to the spring portion of our schedule.

“These additions are all great events where we will compete against some highly-ranked teams, and I am anxious to see how our team performs. It’s one of my goals every season to include a stronger schedule and see some of our conference opponents head-to-head.”

The Red Wolves are set to begin their ninth season under the direction Desbiens Shaw, who has led the squad to 21 top-three finishes for the second most by any coach in school history.

The squad will enter the season with six returning lettermen, including seniors Beth Ann Compton and Aracelly Jimenez Rios. Having earned All-Sun Belt Conference recognition during their careers, the two players helped lead last year’s squad to three top-three finishes and a fifth-place showing among 11 teams at the league tournament.

“We will have three newcomers join our squad this year and have six returnees, including our two solid seniors,” said Desbiens Shaw. “I look forward to a wonderful season filled with hard work and great success.”
