SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (9/10/18) – Competing in its first tournament of the 2018-19 season, the Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a combined 607 Monday at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial to complete the 54-hole tournament’s opening two rounds in seventh place among 15 teams.
The Red Wolves recorded a first-round 302 at the Twin Oaks Country Club and followed with a 305 for the second 18 holes, ending the day four strokes behind both Oral Roberts and host-school Missouri State. Memphis and UTEP are tied for first place after each team shot a 579, while Murray State stands third with a 592 and Wichita State fourth with a 599.
Senior Beth Ann Compton carded a 75 for both the first and second rounds, placing her tied for 17th with a combined 150 to lead A-State. Sitting just outside the top-25 leaders in a tie for 27th place, junior Grayson Gladden (77-75) and senior Aracelly Jimenez Rios (75-77) both recorded a two-round total of 152.
Also counting as part of the Red Wolves’ team score, sophomore Maria Jose Atristain Vega ended Monday’s action tied for 33rd place with a 153 (75-78) and freshman Olivia Schmidt recorded a 158 (79-79) to place her tied for 57th. Competing as an individual, junior Marisa Marquez is also tied for 33rd place after shooting a 76 and 77 for the first and second rounds, respectively.
The MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial’s third-and-final round will be played Tuesday.
