LAFAYETTE, La. (9/28/18) – The Arkansas State women’s soccer team lost to Louisiana 1-0 Friday night at Cajun Field as the Red Wolves dropped their first Sun Belt Conference match of the season.

With the loss, A-State fell to 5-3-2 on the year and 2-1-0 in conference play, while the Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 3-7-2 and 2-2-0 in the league.

The teams were deadlocked throughout most of the match until Louisiana’s Julianne DeBlieux scored the only goal of the match with a high, arching chip shot from 18 yards out that sailed just over the reach of goalkeeper Megan McClure in the 66th minute.

The Red Wolves made a push in the final 20 minutes of the match with an aggressive offensive attack and nearly connected on several good scoring chances that just missed their mark.

Riley Ebenroth put A-State in good scoring position in the 71st minute with a well-placed corner kick that just missed finding a target in front of the net, while Victoria MacIntosh was just inches from tying the match in the 86th with a header that  nearly got by the UL goalkeeper.

Ebenroth followed with another corner kick in the 86th minute that almost curved into the net, while Taylor Schneider put a head on a corner from Ebenroth with nine seconds to go that sailed wide of the net as time expired.

Louisiana outshot the Red Wolves 12-4 on the night but the two sides matched one another with three shots on goal each. A-State also took five corners, to the Ragin’ Cajuns one.

A-State returns to the pitch Sunday afternoon for a conference-road test at Texas State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
