JONESBORO, AR. (11/4/18) – The Arkansas State volleyball team fell in three sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) to UT Arlington Sunday at First national Bank Arena.
With the loss, the Red Wolves dropped to 16-11 overall and 8-6 in conference, while UT Arlington improved to 15-10 overall and 9-6 in Sun Belt action.
UT Arlington raced out to an early 5-0 start on back-to-back kills by Madison Hill. The Mavericks continued to push its lead when they went up 8-2 on kills by Brooke Townsend. The Red Wolves rallied when they went on a 3-0 scoring run to pull within 12-7 to force Maverick timeout.
The Mavericks pulled away 19-11 when they went on a 4-0 scoring run on back-to-back attack errors by the home team. The visitors took the first set 25-16 on a kill by Petra Manderson.
A-State showed fight in the second set when they went on a 3-0 scoring run lead Madison Brown to go up 7-5. The visitors rallied when they went on a 4-0 scoring lead by Bre Walp to pull ahead 10-7. The home team display a sense of urgency when they went on a 3-0 scoring tied the set at 12-12.
However, the visitors kept fighting when they went on a 3-0 run on attack errors by the home team. The Red Wolves rallied when they went on a 3-0 scoring run lead by Macey Putt and May to pull within 19-17. UT Arlington put up a stronger fight, ultimately taking the set 25-21.
UT Arlington went on a 10-1 run early in the third earning a 10-1 advantage. The Red Wolves rallied on when they went on a 3-0 scoring run lead by Payton Uhlenhake to pull within 20-11. The home the pulled within 16-23 when they went on a 4-0 scoring run on back-to-back kills by Carlisa May. A-State couldn’t find rhythm when the dropped the third set 25-16.
The Red Wolves return to action Friday, Nov. 9 to face ULM. The first serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
