MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (11/9/18) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team is in second place after the first day of competition at the 2018 Warhawk Classic hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Red Wolves went 4-1 on the day and finished with a total pinfall count of 5,256 after five Baker matches on the day. McKendree leads the tournament with a 5-0 mark and pinfall count of 5,388. Sam Houston State is in third place with a 5-0 record as well and count of 5,061 followed by host Wisconsin-Whitewater at 5,061. Stephen F. Austin rounds out the top-5 with a pinfall total of 4,975.

A-State (20-1) began with a 1,061-936 loss to McKendree but then reeled off four consecutive victories to end in the day in prime position heading into Saturday’s traditional round format.

The Red Wolves bounced back in match two with a 1,042-938 win over Nebraska, followed by a close 1,130-1,013 win over Maryville. In match four Arkansas State continued to finish with high scores in a 1,176-1,049 win over Stephen F. Austin. A-State finished the day with a 975-691 win over Lincoln to join McKendree and Sam Houston as the only teams to bowl at least four baker games with scores of 1,000 or better.

The competition will continue Saturday morning with five traditional matches.
