DADE CITY, Fla. (3/11/19) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a combined 585, including a season-low 290 for the first round, to complete the Spring Break Shootout’s initial 36 holes Monday at the Lake Jovita Golf Club in a tie for sixth place among 15 teams.


The Red Wolves had three players at least tie their season-low score in one of the first two rounds and ended the day with seniors Aracelly Jimenez Rios and Beth Ann Compton among the top-25 individual leaders.


A-State’s opening-round 290 marked its fourth lowest score since at least the 1998-99 season, while it shot a 295 for the second 18 holes to tie its third lowest round this year.


The Red Wolves are currently in a three-way tie with Austin Peay and Ball State, while they trail fourth-place Samford by just five strokes.  Troy is in first place after posting a combined 571, Florida Gulf Coast stands second with a 572 and Western Kentucky third with a 573.


Jimenez Rios led the Red Wolves, ending the day tied for fifth place with a combined 140.  Her total included a career-best 69 for the first round and a 71 for the second.  Compton is six strokes behind her after carding a season-low 72 to begin play that was followed by a 74 for the second 18 holes.


Olivia Schmidt is tied for 31st place with a 148, which included a first-round 72 that tied her lowest score this year.  She came back to shoot a 76 in the second round.


Also competing for the Red Wolves, Grayson Gladden is tied for 45th place with a 151 (75-76) and Maria Jose Atristain Vega (76-85) and Kiley Rodrigues (80-81) are tied for 78th place after both shot a 161.  Rodrigues is playing as an individual.


The Spring Break Shootout’s third-and-final round is set to get underway at 7:30 a.m. (CT) tomorrow.
