MOBILE, Ala. (9/14/19) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team began play Saturday at the USA Intercollegiate, shooting a first-round 293 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.

A-State’s opening-round 293 (+5) ranks as the seventh-lowest score since at least the 1998-99 season. The Red Wolves are seventh among 16 teams, one stroke behind host South Alabama (+4) and two strokes behind both Troy (+3) and Western Kentucky (+3). UAB posted a first-round total of 285 (-3) to hold the day one lead, three strokes better than second place North Florida (E).

Senior Grayson Gladden carded a season-best 70 (-2) to stand tied for seventh on the player leaderboard. Junior Maria Jose Atristain Vega carded a 73 (+1) to enter Sunday’s second round tied for 25th. Freshman Kayla Burke finished the round tied for 30th with a 74 (+2) while freshman Elise Schultz (+4) and sophomore Olivia Schmidt (+4) each carded a 76 to rank tied for 53rd. Competing as an individual, freshman Sydni Leung is tied for 43rd after a first round 75 (+3).
