Jonesboro, Ark. (10/11/19) – In a match that featured 24 combined attempts at the net, the Arkansas State Soccer Team battled to a 1-1 draw against Troy, Friday night at the A-State Soccer Complex.
Following the match that included two of the league’s top three teams, the Red Wolves moved to 7-4-2 on the year and 3-1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while Troy slide to 10-2-4 on the year and 4-1-2 in the SBC.
Manchester, Mo., native Sarah Sodoma took seven shots at the net while Hailey Furio added to the offensive efforts with three. Julianna Coates had two shots on the match as Olivia Smith, Abby Harris and Sophia Restrepo each had one.
The Red Wolves jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute, when Harris sent a near perfect ball through to Sodoma. Sodoma then shook off a Troy defender the find the back of the net for the seventh time this season.
The Trojans equalized the match 1-1, in the 14th minute, on a goal by Melissa Kuya-Strobel while Caroline Tully was credited with the assists.
Junior Megan McClure made three saves as Troy’s Haleigh Mercer made an impressive six saves on the match.
Arkansas State will resume Sun Belt Conference action when it travels to Georgia Southern Friday, October, 18. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Eagle Field., as live stats can be viewed at astatestats.com.
