LAWRENCE, Kan. (10/20/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team continued competition at the 2017 ITA Central Regional on the University of Kansas campus Friday afternoon.

The Red Wolves moved into consolation bracket play and gathered four wins on the afternoon, led by a pair of victories from transfer Berta Masdevall Masip as she advanced into the round of 16. Masip defeated Ann-Christine Link of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 64 and then knocked off Nebraska-Omaha 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. She will now take on Natalia Bravo of Western Illinois for the right to advance to the round of eight of the consolation bracket.

In other singles’ competition, Shelby King and Sabina Jeresic each won their round of 64 matches before falling in the round of 32. King defeated Wichita State’s Alexandra Lazarova 6-3, 6-2 before losing to Oleksandra Doroshenko of Southeast Missouri State 6-3, 6-3. Jeresic defeated SIUE’s Lara Tupper 6-2, 6-0 but then lost to Camila Vargas of Minnesota 7-5, 6-1.

Anita Detlava lost her only match of the day to Joley Lomoas of Drake 6-1, 5-7, 10-6.

The squad will continue play in the tournament Saturday morning at Masip will look to advance in her bracket, while the others will await a new draw for further consolation bracket matches.
