JONESBORO, Ark. (9/4/17) – Arkansas State freshman Tatum Ticknor has been named the Sun Belt Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

The 5-8 libero had a solid week as she posted 79 digs for a 5.27 per set average to help A-State to a 2-2 week. Ticknor began the week with a 25-dig performance in the Red Wolves’ 3-1 win over Southern Illinois and also had an ace and five assists. She followed with 13 digs and 18 digs against Virginia Tech and SMU, respectively, before 23 digs in the 3-1 win over Ole Miss.

A native of Grapevine, Texas, Ticknor leads the league with a 5.46 digs per set average and has accumulated double-digit digs in all but one match so far this season. This is A-State’s third weekly honor of the season after Carlisa May and Ellie Watkins garnered SBC Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week accolades, respectively, after week one.

Arkansas State returns to action Sept. 7-9 at the Central Arkansas Invitational. The Red Wolves play host UCA Thursday night at 7 p.m. before a match against UCF Friday at 5:30 p.m. A-State finishes the even with a Saturday morning match at 10:30 a.m. versus Southern.
