JONESBORO, Ark. (10/2/17) – Arkansas State junior Carlisa May earned her second Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, while middle blocker Timber Terrell claimed her second straight SBC Freshman of the Week award as the league office announced its weekly volleyball awards Monday afternoon.
A native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., May recorded 36 kills for a league-best 4.50 per set average on a .384 attacking percentage over the nomination period. She posted a season-best 24 kills on a .352 hitting percentage in the five-set loss to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Friday. The outside hitter followed with a 12-kill performance on a .474 attacking percentage Sunday afternoon in the sweep of ULM.
May currently leads the team with 244 kills (3.87 per set) and recently registered the 1,000th kill of her career Sept. 22. This weekly award is the 12th of her career and the fifth SBC Offensive Player of the Week honor during her career with the other seven being Freshman of the Week awards in 2015.
Terrell, a native of Wheeling, Ill., notched her second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor with 18 kills (2.25 per set) on a .378 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks, four digs, and the first two service aces of her career. She tallied 10 kills in Friday’s match versus the Ragin’ Cajuns and had three blocks defensively before posting eight kills on an A-State season-high .727 hitting percentage Sunday afternoon at ULM.
For the season Terrell has totaled 82 kills and is second on the team with 36 blocks, including 11 solo blocks.
Arkansas State returns to action Friday, Oct. 6 in a home matchup against UT Arlington. First serve from the Convocation Center is set for 6:30 p.m. and the match will be first of three consecutive broadcast by ESPN3.
