OXFORD, Miss. (3/30/19) – The Arkansas State track and field teams had athletes at three different meets this week and came away with 19 top five finishes and a total of 31 inside the top 10.

Senior sprinter Caitland Smith placed third in the 100-meter dash at the ultra-competitive Texas Relays. She finished with a wind-aided 11.25 seconds (+4.3 m/s) after qualifying for the final with a time of 11.34 seconds. Junior Emma Nwofor competed in the 100-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays finishing 18th with a time of 11.58 seconds. Senior Michael Carr rounded out the Red Wolves at the Texas Relays finishing sixth in the pole vault at 5.15m (16-10.75).

The majority of the A-State teams were at the Ole Miss Classic. Freshman Osereme Erewele impressed with a pair of top three finishes and top-five marks in program history. Erewele won the 200-meter dash in 24.03 seconds, the fifth-fastest in program history, while placing third in the 100-meter dash at 11.75 seconds also fifth-fastest in program history.

Field events produced two more first place finishes for the Red Wolves in Oxford. Eron Carter won the discus throw at 51.96m (170-6) with Eric Williams placing second at 50.18m (164-7). Imani Udoumana won the triple jump with a leap of 12.11m (39-8.75) with Johnaya Givens placing fifth at 11.75m (38-6.75).

Those also earning top-five finishes were; the 4x100-meter relay squad of Chris Hill, Courtney Thomas, Jermie Walker and Christopher Carter (2nd – 40.77), Frank Massey in high jump (2nd – 2.08m/6-9.75), Gracee Damron in 400m hurdles (3rd – 1:03.28), Jermie Walker in 200m dash (3rd – 21.27), Eron Carter in shot put (4th – 16.07m/52-8.75), Sydney Lane in high jump (4th – 1.65m/5-5), Darrian Lockett in 400m hurdles (4th – 54.47), Babette Vandeput in discus throw (4th – 51.14m/167-9), Amari James in 110m hurdles (5th – 14.58), Tiaan Steenkamp in high jump (5th – 1.95m/6-4.75) and Eric Williams in shot put (5th – 16.05m/52-8.00).  

A-State is scheduled to compete at the Georgia Spec Towns Invitational (April 5-6) next week. The Red Wolves Open is scheduled for April 19-20 at the A-State Track & Field Complex and A-State will host the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships May 10-12.
