EUGENE, Ore. (6/5/18) – Seven athletes from the Arkansas State University track and field program will represent the Red Wolves this week at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
For the fourth-consecutive year, the meet will be split into men’s and women’s competition days. The men will compete on Wednesday (June 6) and Friday (June 8) while the women will compete on Thursday (June 7) and Saturday (June 9).
The NCAA Outdoor Championships will once again be broadcast live on the ESPN family of networks. The first two days will be broadcast live on ESPN2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday and 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. The two championship days will be aired live on ESPN, starting at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Saturday. All field events throughout each of the four days will be available to stream live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
Senior thrower Cristian Ravar Ladislau will be the first to compete for A-State as he will throw in flight two of the hammer throw that begins at 4:00 p.m. (CT). Ravar Ladislau enters the event seeded eighth with his throw of 68.80m (225-9) at the NCAA West Region Preliminary.
A-State will have the senior duo of Jaylen Bacon and Elijah Ross sprint in the 100-meter dash at 7:46 p.m. (CT) Wednesday. Bacon and Ross are in the second of three heats with Ross drawing lane two and Bacon assigned to lane five. Bacon is the top qualifier in the 100-meter dash at 9.97 seconds while Ross is ranked 24th.
At 8:00 p.m. (CT), freshman Carter Shell makes his championships debut in the long jump. Shell competes in the second flight and is seeded tied for 23rd entering the meet at 7.64m (25-00.75). Shell is the fifth freshman in program history to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, first since Roelf Pienaar appeared in the long jump in 2014.
Senior thrower Itamar Levi throws in the second flight of shot put at 8:40 p.m. (CT) on Wednseday. Levi, the lone competitor at the NCAA Outdoor Championships from Israel, is seeded 21st entering the competition with his throw of 18.73m (61-5.50).
Bacon wraps up the first day of competition for A-State with the 200-meter dash at 8:44 p.m. (CT). Bacon is assigned lane five in the third of three heats. In both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, the top two finishers from each heat and the next two fastest times among the field advance to the finals on Friday.
Junior Caitland Smith is the lone athlete to represent A-State on Thursday. Smith runs in the 100-meter dash at 7:16 p.m. (CT). Smith, seeded 20th, runs in heat two of three from lane one. Senior Calea Carr competes Saturday at 5:05 p.m. (CT) in the discus throw. Carr will throw in the first heat and is seeded 17th with a throw of 53.42m (175-3).
The seven student-athletes and eight total entries to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are both single-season program highs for Arkansas State. A-State’s five male student-athletes heading to Eugene are the most in program history. The two female student-athletes heading to Eugene are the second-most in program history.
