FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (10/28/18) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished sixth at the Bearcat Hammer Open held at the St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill., as the squad went 2-1 on the final day of the season-opening event.
A-State entered the best-of-seven Baker format tournament as the seventh seed and squared off against the eighth seed Lincoln Memorial to begin the day. It marked the third time in the tournament the A-State had faced Railsplitters with each side having won a match. The Red Wolves emerged victorious in the rubber match, downing Lincoln Memorial 4-2 in the best-of-seven format.
Arkansas State advanced to take on the fifth-seeded Wisconsin-Whitewater in the next round and made quick work of the Warhawks by taking the match in five games at 4-1.
In the final match of the tournament, the Red Wolves faced Central Missouri for the second time after previously defeating the Jennies in the traditional format on Saturday. On Sunday, however, Central Missouri edged out A-State in a thrilling seven-game match with the Jennies getting the win in the final game.
Nebraska won the tournament with a 4-2 win over Vanderbilt in the championship match.
A-State returns to action Nov. 2-4 as the team travels to Houston, Texas for the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State.
