JONESBORO, Ark. (8/11/17) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team silenced Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 6-0, in a three-period friendly-exhibition match Friday afternoon at the Student Activity Center located on the A-State campus.
A-State opened the period attacking the goal early and registered four shots on goal in the early minutes of the game. In the 11th minute, Taylor Schneider netted the first goal of the afternoon on a header off a corner kick by Bailey Reed. Sodoma followed in the 15th minute on a breakaway to give the Red Wolves a 2-0 after the first period. Arkansas State's defense put up a strong front and prevented the Golden Lions from attempting a shot in the frame.
In the second period the Red Wolves added to their on a strike from Lindsey Brochu from 25 yards out in the 32nd minute, while Annica Karlsson took a pass in the middle of the field from Maggie Ertl to go up 4-0 in the 38th minute. Sodoma finished off the period with a kick from the left side into the top left corner of the net in the 58th to push the advantage to 5-0.
A-State continued to pressure in the third period and was rewarded when Hailey Furio found the back of the net on a shot from 15 yards out to the upper left post to round out the afternoon for the Red Wolves.
In goal, A-State played all three of its goalies with Kelsey Ponder earning the start. Freshman Megan McClure entered the match in the period and made two stops, while Alexis Philippe closed out the game with a quiet third period.
Arkansas State will continue exhibition play Sunday afternoon when it hosts Jackson State in Jonesboro. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the A-State Soccer Park.
