JONESBORO, Ark. (8/17/17) – The Arkansas State men's golf team has announced its 2017-18 schedule, which will begin Sept. 8 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., and feature its annual home tournament at RidgePointe Country Club as part of 11 regular-season outings before the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
A-State is set to begin its third season under 2016 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Mike Hagen, who has led the program to nine tournament championships over the last two seasons. The Red Wolves return all but one player, including four All-Sun Belt selections, from last year's squad that ranked among the top 87 teams in the nation for the second consecutive season.
The Red Wolves' schedule includes five fall tournaments and seven spring events, including the Sun Belt Conference Championships April 22-24 at the Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla. The Red Wolves have advanced to the league tournament's match-play semifinals each of the last two seasons.
Following play in the season-opening tournament, the Red Wolves will also compete at the Memphis Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club Sept. 18-19. The remainder of their fall schedule will be played in October, starting with the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Pearland, Texas.
The tourney, hosted by Houston, Rice and Sam Houston State, will be played Oct. 9-10 at the Golfcrest Country Club. The Red Wolves will then compete in the Little Rock Intercollegiate at Chenal Country Club Oct. 24-25 before defending their 2017 title of the Duck Commander Intercollegiate, set this year for Oct. 29-31 at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.
A-State will resume play in the fall starting Feb. 24-25 as they travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Red Wolves will have an open week before playing the Border Olympics March 9-10 in Laredo, Texas, and then compete again March 19-20 at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
The Red Wolves will return to El Dorado five days later on March 25 for the one-day Mystic Creek Match Play event, which will feature a four-team field also made up of ULM, Little Rock and Louisiana Tech.
The spring portion of the Red Wolves' schedule is highlighted by their home tournament, the Arkansas State Bubba Barnett Collegiate. A-State used two squads in the tourney last year, claiming both first place and runner-up honors. The 22nd annual event will be played April 2-3 at the RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro.
The Hawkeye Invitational, A-State's final outing before the Sun Belt Conference Championships, will be played April 14-15 in Iowa City at the Finkbine Golf Course.
