CONWAY, Ark. (9/22/17) – Four Arkansas State women’s tennis players collected wins Friday afternoon as the Red Wolves competed in the first of competition at the UCA Fall Invitational.

Kirsty Venter had the best invidiual day of any A-State player after collecting two victories in the main draw’s third flight. She began her day with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Karla Tomiac (Northeastern State), and then a 6-7 (5), 6-0, 10-4 win over Fati Khamissi (MSU) to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

Shelby King took home a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory against Anelisse Torrico on the main draw’s top flight.

In consolation bracket play, Sabina Jeresic downed Neo Parker (6-2, 6-1) in the second flight, while Allison Quammen defeated Abbey Belote (MSU) 3-6, 6-4, 11-5 in the consolation bracket third flight. Berta Masdevall Masip also captured a third flight win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tomiac.

In doubles competition Quammen and Masip earned a 6-3 victory over CJ Boydston/Emma Warnock of Northeastern State before falling later in the round. King and Jeresic also teamed up for a 6-4 victory over a duo from Central Arkansas before they also were defeated in the round of 16.

The tournament continues Saturday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Complex.
