PEARLAND, Texas (10/9/17) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team completed the Bayou City Collegiate Classic’s first two rounds Monday in first place among 15 teams after shooting a combined 569 at the Golfcrest Country Club.

The Red Wolves recorded a first-round 282 that initially put them in second place, and then followed with a second-round 287 to move to the top of the standings.  Second-place Lipscomb trails A-State by only one stroke after posting a combined 570.

The Red Wolves also lead third-place Sam Houston State by five strokes, as well as schools such as UTSA, Houston, SMU, Rice, Texas State, Nebraska, Little Rock, UT Arlington and Southern Miss.

Arkansas State had four players who finished the day among the top-20 individual leaders, including senior Tanner Napier in a tie for second place.  Napier led the Red Wolves by shooting a first-round 69 and a second-round 71 for a combined 140.

Junior Joel Wendin followed closely in a tie for seventh place after posting a combined 141 (68-73). Wendin’s first-round 68 was the lowest single-round score of the day by an A-State player.

Redshirt junior Trent Jones and junior Jakub Bares completed the first two rounds tied for 15th place with a 144.  Jones shot an even-par 72 in each of the first two rounds, while Bares opened with a 73 before cutting two strokes off that total for the second 18 holes.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, sophomore Zan Luka Stirn is tied for 57th place with a 151 (77-74).  The tournament’s third-and-final round will be played Tuesday, Oct. 10.
