LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (10/23/17) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team completed the Little Rock Invitational’s first two rounds Monday at the Chenal Country Club with a combined 589, placing the Red Wolves tied for third among 10 teams.

A-State ended each of today’s first two rounds tied for third place after opening with a 296 and coming back to cut three strokes off that total for the second 18 holes. The Red Wolves are currently tied with UT Arlington, while Little Rock leads the field with a 581 and Illinois State stands second with a 582.

The Red Wolves had three players finish the day among the top 20 individual leaders, including sophomore Zan Luka Stirn in a tie for second place, senior Tanner Napier in a tie for fourth and junior Joel Wendin in a tie for 18th.

Competing as an individual, Stirn was responsible for the team’s lowest score in each round as he carded a 68 and 71 for the first and second rounds, respectively. His 5-under 139 total leaves him only one stroke behind leader Aaron Ramos of Little Rock.

Napier was tied for 14th place after carding a first-round 73, but came back to shoot a 68 in the afternoon as he climbed 10 places in the standings with a combined 141. Wendin started with a 73 and followed with a 74, giving him a 36-hole 147.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, junior Jakub Bares is tied for 28th place with a 149 (74-75), senior Andrew Huseman tied for 49th with a 155 (76-79), junior Trent Jones tied for 53rd with a 156 (80-76) and sophomore Patrik Jericha is tied for 59th with a 159 (80-79).  Jericha is also playing as an individual.

The tournament’s third-and-final round will be played Tuesday.
