HOUSTON, Texas (11/4/17) – The third-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished day two of the Track Kat Klash being held at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas, in third place overall, going 3-2 in competition.
During five games of traditional matches, the Red Wolves (16-7) managed to move up eight spots, landing them a spot in the top five at third place. They knocked down more than 1,000 pins in four of the five matches, leaving the team with a total of 5,136 pinfall for the day; which was also the high among all teams for the day. To cap off day two, the squad ended with 9,685 total pins.
Arkansas State started day two strong as they rolled over No. 18 North Carolina A&T 1004-867 behind a 247 from Jordan Richard. They then fell to No. 5 Sam Houston State 972-946 but regained full momentum in the third match of the day, beating Grambling 1,074-702 with Leah Glazer posting a 277 in the match, while Haley Richard contributed a 254.
A-State lost in a tight battle to Louisiana Tech as they were out pinned 1,028-1,004, but managed to secure their final match of the day with a 1,108-899 win over Texas Southern, which was its highest pinfall total of the day. Glazer led the team with a 254 in the win over Lady Tigers, while Jordan Richard added a 225 and Haley Richard recorded a score of 224.
The Red Wolves' 9,685 total pins has them in third place behind McKendree (9,795) and Nebraska (9,988). Other teams in the top five include Maryland Eastern Shore with a total of 9,564 pins and host Sam Houston State, who has 9,513 total pins.
Glazer, a true freshman, was named tournament MVP with a total pinfall of 1,241 and an average of 248.20 over the sum of five games. Teammates Jordan Richard and Haley Richard joined Glazer in the top 10 as third-place Jordan Richard ended with a total pinfall of 1,083 with an average of 216.60 to earn all-tournament honors, while Haley Richard ended with a total of 1,032 with an average of 206.40 to finish in eighth place.
A-State plays No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore to begin the best-of-seven Baker bracket play Sunday morning at 8:20 a.m.
