STAKRVILLE, Miss. (1/22/18) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team lost a pair of matches to Mississippi State on Monday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center on the Mississippi State University campus.
The Red Wolves lost each match by a score of 5-0 to fall to a 0-4 of the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with the victories.
In the first match, Mississippi State grabbed the doubles’ point with a pair of 6-1 victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Shelby King and Shannon O'Brien earned their first doubles’ victory with a 6-3 winner in the No. 2 match over Magda Adaloglou and Janina Braun.
In singles’ competition the Bulldogs earned four points to clinch the match, all in straight sets. Sabina Jeresic was tied 4-4 in the second set of her match and Shannon O’Brien was up 4-1 in the second of her battle when the match was called on clinched points.
In the day’s second match, the Bulldogs took the doubles’ point again with victories in all three matches, and then won four matches in straight sets to cap off the afternoon.
“We competed hard today,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “We played well in the doubles’ matches and had some early momentum going at times and we showed good fight in the singles’ matches. We are looking forward to coming home this weekend and kicking off the home portion of our schedule.”
