IOWA CITY, Iowa. (04/14/18) – The 61st ranked Arkansas State men’s golf team stayed in eighth place after completing the second and final round of the Hawkeye Invitational Saturday at the Finkbine Golf Course.

A-State followed up its first round performance by scoring a second-round 307 to post a 36-hole total of 604. The Red Wolves pulled ahead of No. 60 Marquette by three strokes and completed the tournament behind No. 76 Minnesota by only two strokes.

Finishing in the top-10 for the fourth time of the 2017-18 season, senior Tanner Napier led the team by completing both rounds tied for eighth place. Napier carded a second-round 76 to record a 147 total.

Two other Red Wolves finished among the tournament’s top-30 individual players in a field of 75 golfers. Junior Joel Wendin and sophomore Zan Luka Stirn both tied for the 26th position after 36-hole totals of 151. Wendin scored a second-round 76, while Stirn recorded a 77 in the final round.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, sophomore Matthew Cole scored a second-round 78 to end the tournament with a 157 and tie for 53rd place. Junior Jakub Bares tied for 60th place with a final-round 82 to post a 159 total.

The Arkansas State men’s golf team will be back in action on Sunday, April 22, at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
