FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (10/29/17) – The third-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished fifth at the Brunswick Bearcat Open being held at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill., as the squad went 3-0 on the final day of the season-opening event.

A-State (9-4) entered the best-of-seven Baker format tournament as the eighth seed and squared off against the seventh seed and No. 10 Central Missouri to begin its day. The two teams split the first four games before the Red Wolves posted back-to-back 200+ scores in games five (210-194) and six (215-196) to win the match 4-2.

Arkansas State competed against the fifth seed and No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore next and split the first two games (187-177 and 171-186). A-State posted a 221-190 triumph in game three before a 192-186 victory in game four to move in front of the Hawks 3-1. The Red Wolves then clinched a 4-1 match victory with a win by a single pin 189-188 in game five.

The team moved on to face No. 5 Sam Houston State in the fifth-place match with the Bearkats winning game one 210-172 before A-State bounced back with a 212-189 win. The two squads tied game three 182-182 before SHSU took game four 193-189. The Red Wolves won game five 200-186 to even the match at 2.5-2.5 and finished Sam Houston off with wins in game six (203-186) and seven (169-148) for a 4.5-2.5 victory to earn fifth place.

Nebraska won the tournament with a 4-3 win over host McKendree. The season-opening tournament for the Red Wolves featured 16 ranked teams among the 23 squads that competed at the event.

A-State returns to action Nov. 3-5 as the team travels to Houston, Texas for the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State.
