CONWAY, Ark. (9/24/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the UCA Fall Invitational Saturday evening with another strong tournament in both singles’ and doubles’ competition.
A-State redshirt sophomore Shelby King was among the top-4 finishers in the main draw’s top flight after finishing the tournament with a 2-2 singles’ record. Newcomer Kirsty Venter also finished fourth in the main draw’s third flight after also going 2-2 in her draw.
Allison Quammen won the third flight’s consolation bracket with a victory over teammate Berta Masdevall Masip in the finals. Sophomore Shannon O’Brien also had a good tournament after winning a three-set match in her final match of the day on Saturday.
“It was a good tournament for us,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “We needed an opportunity to evaluate where we are at and this gave us a good opportunity to do that in both singles’ and doubles’ competition.
In the doubles’ bracket, Sabina Jeresic and King combined to win the consolation bracket after also doing so in their previous tournament at Air Force.
The Red Wolves will return to competition Oct. 19-22 at the ITA Regional Qualifier in Lawrence, Kan., at the University of Kansas.
