MIAMI, (5/13/11) – The Arkansas State baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision in game two of its three-game Sun Belt Conference series at FIU on Friday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.

The game dropped ASU to 22-30 with a 10-16 league mark. FIU won its 15th straight contest moving to 35-16 with an 18-8 league mark.

FIU scored three unearned runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Rudy Flores, a sac fly by Mike Martinez and a bunt single by Jabari Henry.

The Golden Panthers scored again in the fourth when Behar grounded out to ASU starter Brad Allen which plated Henry.

Junior first baseman Daniel Short got ASU on the board in the seventh inning when he sent the first pitch of the frame over the left field fence for a solo home run to move ASU within three runs of FIU, 4-1. It was the first home run as a Red Wolf for Short and the only run scored for A-State.

FIU scored a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run home run from Martinez to take the final 6-1 lead.

“The game was played in the first inning; we couldn’t score with a runner at third with nobody out and they scored three with an error so essentially it was a four run swing and the game was played early,” said ASU head coach Tommy Raffo.

Senior starting pitcher Brad Allen threw 5.0 innings with two strikeouts giving up just one earned run on five hits.

FIU outhit the Red Wolves 9-6 while ASU committed just one error while the Golden Panthers were perfect in the field.

ASU will complete the three-game series against FIU on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start at FIU Baseball Stadium.
