MIAMI, (5/15/11) – In one of the rarest situations in baseball, the Arkansas State baseball team used a four run eighth inning to come from behind and tie the host FIU Golden Panthers Sunday afternoon at FIU Baseball Stadium.

The game began with a 90-minute rain delay and it was deemed that no inning would begin past 4 p.m. due to the SBC get away rule.

The Red Wolves moved to 22-30-1 with a 10-16-1 league mark. FIU snapped its 15-game winning streak moving to 35-16-1 with an 18-8-1 league mark.

The Red Wolves took a three-run lead in the first inning when sophomore outfielder Michael Faulkner led the inning off with an infield single and was moved to second when Zach Maggio walked. Sophomore Logan Uxa then beat out a play for another infield single which plated Faulkner. Freshman Brandon Milhouse then drove in Maggio on a ground out and Uxa scored on a single from Zach George giving ASU a 3-0 lead on four hits in the first frame.

FIU’s T.J. Shantz sent the first pitch he saw in the second inning over the left field fence to move the before Jeremy Patton hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Jose Behar moving within one run of the Red Wolves, 3-2.

ASU scored again in the third frame when sophomore outfielder Ryan Emery scored on a wild pitch giving ASU a two-run lead 4-2.

Behar doubled-home two runs with one out in the third inning to tie the game at 4-4 for the Golden Panthers.  Behar then scored on a passed-ball to give FIU its first lead of the game, 5-4. Patton then drove in Capote on a two-out single to left field to move the Golden Panthers into a two-run lead 6-4.

Senior Todd Baumgartner pinch hit in the eighth inning for Jones and drove in two runs on an RBI single to right field with one out in the inning to tie the game at 6-6. Maggio then drove in two runs on a one-out two-RBI single to right field to give ASU the lead 8-6.

Mike Martinez and Jabari Henry each hit into a sacrifice to tie the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the frame.

Zach George went 2-3 at the plate to lead A-State with an RBI and run scored while Faulkner was 2-4 for the Red Wolves.

ASU begins its final weekend of Sun Belt Conference action on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against UALR at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field.
