JONESBORO, Ark. (3/10/14) – Six different Red Wolves drove in runs as the Arkansas State baseball team defeated Creighton 6-2 in the final contest of a three-game series Monday at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field in Jonesboro.

A-State (7-8) got on the board first during the bottom of the second inning.  Ty Michelotti singled to lead off the inning and stole second during the next at-bat.  Michelotti advanced to third on a wild pitch and was driven home on an RBI groundout by Collin Massanelli to give the Red Wolves a 1-0 lead.

Creighton (6-5-1) struck back in the top of the third inning after Bryan Ayers relieved Arkansas State starter David Owen, who pitched two scoreless innings to open the contest.  The Bluejays started the frame off with a walk and single before a fielder’s choice by Brad McKewon plated a run for Creighton to tie the game at 1-1.  Ayers was able to get out of the rest of the inning to keep the score tied going into the bottom half of the third.

The Red Wolves responded in a big way in the bottom of the third as Zach Maggio led off with a single followed by a Lucas Feddersen double to put runners on second and third with no outs.  Austin Baker singled Maggio home to give A-State a 2-1 lead and chase Creighton’s starter Tommy Strunc after two+ innings of work.

A-State welcomed Bluejays’ reliever Jeff Albrecht with a single from Matt Burgess to plate Feddersen to increase Arkansas State’s lead to 3-1.  Stuart Levy concluded the scoring with an RBI groundout to score Baker to give the Red Wolves a 4-1 lead going into the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, A-State started a one-out rally with a Dustin Jones walk and a stolen base to get him in scoring position during the next at-bat.  Maggio doubled home Jones to give the Red Wolves a 5-1 lead and Maggio scored on a Feddersen single to increase A-State’s lead to 6-1 before Creighton could get out of the inning.

The Bluejays plated a run in the top of the fifth after two, two-out walks and a single that scored Kevin Lamb.  Morgan Croft relieved Ayers and recorded the final out of the inning to keep the score 6-2 in favor of A-State.  Croft finished the game to earn the win and had a final line of 4 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Neither team scored a run over the final four innings of the contest.

Maggio, Feddersen, and Baker all registered two hits on the night to give the Red Wolves six of their nine hits for the game.  Levy and Feddersen extended their respective on-base streaks to 14 and 11 games, while the Red Wolves recorded a season-high four stolen bases on the night.

Arkansas State travels to Murray, Ky., to take on the Thoroughbreds Tuesday at 2 p.m. in its final tune-up before opening conference play.
