JONESBORO, Ark. (4/29/14) – Austin Baker doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead Arkansas State to a 7-6 win over Murray State Tuesday night at Tomlinson Stadium.

Led by Baker, the Red Wolves (26-19) scored seven runs across the fourth, fifth and sixing innings and roughed up the Thoroughbreds pitching staff for eight hits, including a pair of three-run innings.

Baker, who has eight RBIs seven hits 18 total bases in two games against Murray State, went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, doubled home A-State’s first run of the game in the fourth inning to get the rally started. Ty Michelotti added a two-run single later in the inning for one of his two hits that scored Baker and Matt Burgess to pull the Red Wolves within two runs.

Baker tied in the fifth inning with another two-run double that plated Zach Maggio and Eric Wilcoxson and Burgess followed with an RBI single to give the Red Wolves a 6-5 lead. The Red Wolves added a run on an RBI single by Michelotti. The true freshman went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Red Wolves had 10 hits overall, seven of those were singles.

Coulton Lee (2-1) walked in two runs with bases loaded and surrendered another on a sacrifice fly, but all three runs were charged to Adam Grantham who went 3 1/3 innings. Grantham looked sharp through the first three innings but ran into problems in the fourth after getting just one on a sacrifice bunt.

The Thoroughbreds (18-24) scored four runs with the benefit of a hit in the inning.

Lee settled down and gave up a hit in the fifth inning before giving way to Morgan Croft and Colton Kibler who combined for three scoreless innings.

Tyler Zuber, who earned his first career save in A-State’s last outing, made things interesting in the ninth. The true freshman gave up a run to pull Murray State within 7-6 and had the tying run just 90 feet away, but battled and got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game for his second save.
