JONESBORO,
Ark. (4/17/2012) — Arkansas State freshman Tamara Slijepcevic was named the Sun
Belt Conference’s tennis co-player of the week after helping the Red Wolves to
victory over Texas-El Paso and Southern Mississippi last week, the league
announced Tuesday.
The freshman
from Novi Sad, Serbia went 2-0 on the week
after defeating UTEP’s Martina Tierweiler 6-2, 7-6 and Southern Mississippi’s
Alexus Coats 6-2, 6-4. She finished the regular season on a nine match winning
streak after starting the year on an eight match winning streak. She 6-0 in Sun
Belt Conference play and finished the regular season and a 17-2 record. In doubles competition Slijepcevic paired with Biljana
Miloshevska against UTEP to defeat UTEP’s Marie LeBlond and Gabi Vazquez 8-5.
“I am very
excited for Tamara she has had an outstanding season,” ASU tennis coach Marina
Engelbrecht said. “She has worked hard and improved through the season. I am
proud and thrilled to have such a talented young lady on our team.”
The
Arkansas State tennis team will return to the courts April 19-22 at the Sun
Belt Conference Tournament in Denton, Texas.
