JONESBORO, Ark. (4/17/12) – The Arkansas State tennis
team secured the No. 8 seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tennis
Tournament April 19-22 hosted by the University of North Texas.
A-State will face No. 9 Florida Atlantic Thursday,
April 19 at 11:30 a.m. with the winner of the match advancing to face the
top-seed North Texas Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The Red Wolves finished the regular season with an
11-8 record. The team won six straight matches in midseason, while freshman
Tamara Slijepcevic had had an eight-match winning streak to begin the year.
The freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia ended the season on
a nine-match winning streak and led the team with a 17-2 record and was a
perfect 6-0 against Sun Belt Conference opponents.
Senior Ceara Howey finished the year with a 12-7
record and had an eight-match winning streak in midseason playing in the No. 6
position. Sophomores Janie Nowland and Biljana Miloshevska combined for a 17-21
record, while junior Ioana Teu finished the year with an 11-7 record.
Matches will be played the Waranch Tennis Complex in
Denton, Texas. All matches will be broadcasts by Radio Tennis and can be heard
