JONESBORO, Ark. (3/7/18) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis collected a 6-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday afternoon at the A-State Tennis Complex.
The Red Wolves swept the doubles’ point and were led by a pair of 6-0 victories on courts one and two. Berta Masdevall Masip and Anita Detlava earned their second doubles’ victory of the year, while Shelby King and Shannon O’Brien improved to 6-3 in doubles’ competition, which includes victories in each of their last three outings.
In singles’ competition, the Red Wolves earned five victories to complete their first shutout of an opponent since March 28, 2012 when it defeated Central Arkansas 7-0 that season. A-State lost just two points on the afternoon and won all five matches in straight sets.
Sabina Jeresic, Masedevall Masip, King, Detlava and Allison Quammen each won in straight sets. With her win, Jeresic ran her singles’ record to 4-5, while King and Masedevall Masip each earned their second wins of the year. Quammen picked up her first win since returning from an injury, while Detlava also won her first match in a Red Wolves’ uniform.
“We played really well today,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “It was good to see everyone get a win and build some momentum as we begin a break in our schedule. We will use our time off to work on ourselves and get better in the areas we have struggled before returning to start against Alcorn State at the end of March.”
The Red Wolves return to the courts to take on Alcorn State on March 20 in Vicksburg, Miss.
