NASHVILLE, Tenn. (3/10/19) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team was defeated by Presbyterian College 4-3 Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference match before the start of league play.
The Red Wolves captured the doubles point with Anita Detlava and Berta Masdevall Masip earning a 6-2 victory on court one and Shelby King and Shannon O’Brien followed suit with a 6-4 win on court two.
The Blue Hose got the point back when Detlava lost to Samantha Calais 6-3, 6-1 on court three to kickoff singles’ competition and then took a lead in the match when Masdevall Masip dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Beth Taylor on court two.
Shelby King helped even the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory on court two, but Presbyterian College again went back in front when Sydney Patton defeated A-State’s Pornpawee Pramethong 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 on court one.
Shannon O’Brien roared back for A-State with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Jessica Leeman on court five, but Amelia Guevremont was unable to close out the win for the Red Wolves when she lost to Katie Thompson 6-4, 6-3.
A-State will open Sun Belt Conference play at home on March 16 against Coastal Carolina.
