JONESBORO,
Ark. (4/11/12) – Arkansas State head women’s basketball coach Brian Boyer
announced Wednesday that Angelina Community College forwards Carlette and
Carlisha Wyatt, and Kilgore College guard Aundrea Gamble have all signed
National Letters of Intent to continue their basketball careers as Red Wolves.
An
NJCAA honorable mention All-American, Carlisha Wyatt (6-0) averaged 15 points
and over seven rebounds, while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor last year
for the Lady Roadrunners. She was named
first-team All-Region XIV and was a two-time all-conference performer at Angelina
Community College. She was also a
two-time all-district and all-state honorable mention at Bryan (Texas) High
School after averaging 11.2 points and 8.8 rebounds.
Her
twin sister Carlette (5-11) was also an all-state honorable mention selection
at Bryan, averaging 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game during her
career. At Angelina Community College,
she averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds, while shooting just over 50 percent
from the field.
“I
am excited about adding the combination of Carlisha & Carlette,” said
Boyer. “On the court they both bring good size and versatility and in our
system, both offensively and defensively, they will be able to play several
positions. Offensively, they both are very physical, scoring with their
backs to the basket and strong off the dribble. We really struggled last
year to rebound, and I expect both of them to immediately help us in that area.”
Both
players plan to major in Sports Medicine at Arkansas State, and are the
daughters of Diane Auston. They were
coached at Angelina Community College by Byron Coleman.
As
a freshman at Kilgore College, Gamble (5-9) averaged 16.1 points, 6.2 rebounds,
3.6 assists, 1.9 steals and just under one blocked shot per game for the Lady
Rangers, earning all-conference and all-region honors along the way. She shot 48 percent from the floor, 72
percent from the free throw line and 31 percent from behind the three-point
arc, and her 16.1 points per game ranked third in Region XIV.
She
prepped at McKinney-North (Texas) High School, where she averaged 18.6 points,
7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists. 3.4 steals and .9 blocked shots per game.
“Aundrea
is a very talented point or off-guard that has three years of eligibility
remaining. She has the ability to score in all areas, shooting the three,
attacking the basket or in the open court. She was the third-leading
scorer in one of the best junior college regions in the country. I also
expect Aundrea to be able to make a major impact on this team defensively.”
Gamble
is the daughter of Jannetta Britt and Elvin Gamble and plans to major in
Kinesiology at ASU. She was coached at
Kilgore by Roy Thomas.
“Carlisha,
Carlette and Aundrea have competed in one of the best junior college regions,”
added Boyer. “We needed to get better athletically with this recruiting
class and I feel like we’ve been able to accomplish that with the signing of
these three athletes.”
