MEMPHIS,
Tenn. (8/31/12) – The Arkansas State soccer team fell to No. 24 Memphis 4-0 at
Mike Rose Stadium on Friday night.
The
Red Wolves fell behind 1-0 in the 13th minute on goal from the
Tigers’ Tine Schryvers and Memphis added to its lead in the 34th
with a goal from Kaitlyn Atkins.
“We
put forth a good effort, but small errors against the run of play cost us dearly,”
ASU soccer coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge said. “It’s still very early in the season
and considering that we are so young I am a firm believer that this group will
do well.”
Memphis
added to its lead in the second half with goals from Madison Oliver (53rd)
and Schryvers (64th) to give the Tigers a 4-0 cushion.
Christina
Fink and Ashley McMurtry led ASU with two shots each, while Ashley Jackson also
took a shot. McMurtry had two shots on goal, while Fink and Jackson each had
one shot land on goal.
In
goal for A-State, Audrey Baldwin played 53 minutes and made five saves, while
Aja Aguirre played the remainder of the game and made one save.
ASU
will return to the field Sunday, Sept. 2 for a match against Jackson State. The
match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
