JONESBORO, Ark. (11/7/2013) — The Arkansas State women’s soccer team was recently honored for its success on the soccer field and in the classroom at a championship banquet hosted by the Sun Belt Conference.

The Red Wolves were honored for having a team grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and a total of 12 student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in the classroom.

Elizabeth Howard, Alex Furr, Jenna Duerst and Ava Abner were named to the Sun Belt Conference’s Academic Honor Roll for having a GPA between 3.0-3.4. Amanda Lee, Christine Giles, Christina Fink, Katey Carmichael, Ashley Jackson, Katie Hosea, Madison Joyce and Lindsay Johansen were named to the Commissioner’s List for having GPA’s of 3.5 and above.

In addition to the awards handed out at the banquet, CollegeSportsMadness.com named four A-State players to its All-Sun Belt Conference teams. Loren Mitchell and Katie Hosea were each named to the publication’s first team while Samhia Simao and Ashley Jackson were second team selections.

Mitchell scored the game-winning goal in the Red Wolves’ thrilling 2-1 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in the opening round of the SBC Tournament while Hosea anchored one of the best defensive back lines in the conference. Simao finished her first season in an A-State uniform with five goals and three assists, while Jackson provided support in the midfield throughout the year.

A-State returns to the field Friday, Nov. 8, against No. 2 South Alabama in the semifinals of the SBC Tournament. First kick is set for 4 p.m. and the match will be streamed free on SunBeltSports.org.
