Murray, Ky. (8/24/12) – Sophomore Jena’ Kelley goal in the 86th minute propelled Arkansas State to a 1-0 over Murray State in a non-conference soccer match Friday afternoon.

Kelley scored off of a corner from junior Christine Giles with just minutes left game to break a 0-0 tie and give the Red Wolves (2-1-0) their first road victory of the season. It was Kelley’s second goal of the season, while Giles earned her second assist of the year.

“It was an improved second half effort that propelled us to victory against a tough opponent,” ASU soccer coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge said. “We still have some weaknesses that I’d like to see us get rid of before the next game.”

Fink also led ASU with five shots, including three on goal. Ashley Jackson added two shots, while Giles, Ashley McMurtry, Katey Carmichael and Logan Kramer each took one shot. A-State outshot the Racers 11-9 and had four shots on goal.

In goal for ASU, junior Audrey Baldwin made two saves and played all 90 minutes.

The Red Wolves will return to the field Friday, Aug. 31 for a road match against Memphis. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
