Murray, Ky. (8/24/12) – Sophomore Jena’ Kelley goal in
the 86th minute
propelled Arkansas State to a 1-0 over Murray State in a non-conference soccer
match Friday afternoon.
Kelley scored off of a corner from junior Christine Giles
with just minutes left game to break a 0-0 tie and give the Red Wolves (2-1-0)
their first road victory of the season. It was Kelley’s second goal of the
season, while Giles earned her second assist of the year.
“It was an improved second half effort that propelled us to
victory against a tough opponent,” ASU soccer coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge said. “We
still have some weaknesses that I’d like to see us get rid of before the next
game.”
Fink also led ASU with
five shots, including three on goal. Ashley Jackson added two shots, while
Giles, Ashley McMurtry, Katey Carmichael and Logan Kramer each took one shot.
A-State outshot the Racers 11-9 and had four shots on goal.
In goal for ASU,
junior Audrey Baldwin made two saves and played all 90 minutes.
The Red Wolves will
return to the field Friday, Aug. 31 for a road match against Memphis. The match
is set to begin at 7 p.m.
