JONESBORO, Ark. (6/5/12) - Arkansas
State sophomore sprinter Sharika Nelvis is set to compete in the 2012 NCAA
Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will be held Wednesday through
Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Nelvis enters the competition after qualifying in the 100m dash and the 100m hurdles. Nelvis ranks fourth among qualifiers in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 12.99 which she ran at the NCAA West Regional at Texas. Nelvis is just .21 seconds behind the leading time of 12.78 from Christina Manning of Ohio State. Nelvis is also the top ranked sophomore in the event. In the 100m dash, Nelvis currently sits 19th amongst the qualifiers with a time of 11.42 and is less than .10 seconds out of the top 10. This is the second trip to the NCAA Championships for Nelvis, who competed at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this past spring in the 60m hurdles. Nelvis races in the preliminaries of the 100m dash at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and will run in the 100m hurdles preliminary at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday.
