NASHVILLE
(4/20/12) - Arkansas State athletes Kim Ludick and Richard Chavez captured the
women's javelin and men's shot put titles during the first day of competition
at the Vandy Invitational Saturday.
Ludick
won the women's javelin with a throw of 38.89m while also finishing fifth in
the women's shot put at 13.73m. Julia Agawu finished fourth in the women's shot
put with a throw of 13.92m.
Chavez
was one of four Red Wolves to finish in the top five of the men's shot put with
at throw of 17.97m. Chris Nicasio was second at 16.26, followed by Tyler Lingo
in fourth (15.07) and Corwin Pace in fifth (14.78).
Sharika
Nelvis set a new Arkansas State record in the women's 200 meter run with a time
of 23.35. The time was good for second in the event. Joey Meyer finished fifth
on the men's side of the 200, posting a time of 21.28.
William
Oliver was third overall and second among collegians in the long jump with a
leap of 7.35m. John Ellis was fourth overall and third among college
competitors in the men's pole vault at 4.90m.
Bailey
Bunyan posted a ninth-place finish in the men's 1500 meter run at 3:57.66.

continues action on Saturday at the Vandy Invitational.
