BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (2/9/18) – The Arkansas State men’s and women’s track and field teams completed preparations ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships with Friday’s Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The A-State men won three events and put together 12 top three finishes while the women’s squad had top three finishes in four events. The Red Wolves take over the top spot on the Sun Belt Conference performance list in two events while taking second in two other events.

“The team came together at this meet a produced a solid effort,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “We have continued to improve each week, which is a good sign as we prepare ourselves for the conference indoor meet in just over a week.”

David Phillips and Tiaan Steenkamp tied for the top mark in the high jump competition clearing 2.13m (6-11.75). Phillips won the top spot by way of the jump off but the mark puts Phillips and Steenkamp atop the SBC list. Michael Carr was over 5.31m (17-05.00) in the pole vault to break into the historic top-10 marks in program history. The clearance puts him in the top spot among SBC athletes as well.

Hannah Dunderdale had the standout performance on the women’s side as she placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.60 seconds. The time ranks fourth in program history and moves her up to second among Sun Belt competitors.

Cristian Ravar Ladislau had a season best weight throw of 19.72m (64-08.50) to place second in the meet. His mark helps him move up to third on the league ledger. Itamar Levi claimed top honors in the shot put for the fourth time this year, winning with a throw of 18.54m (60-10.00). Also moving to third on the league standings was Heinrich Herbst in the 800-meter run. He clocked a time of 1:54.90 to place second in the race.

Distance runners accounted for 11 top-10 performances on Friday with Seth Waters winning the mile run with a time of 4:16.59. Pauline Meyer placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.34, the fifth-fastest time in program history, to move up to sixth on the league table. Sammy Brainard came in fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:07.83 to rank eighth in program history.

The Red Wolves return to Birmingham, Ala., the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 19-20.
