Release: 01/10/2013

Julius Brown enters his first season as cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Arkansas State.

Brown joins Arkansas State after most recently spending the 2012 season as cornerbacks coach at Sun Belt Conference member Troy.  Brown coached a cornerbacks corps that saw five different players combine to record 100 tackles, 18 pass break-ups, three fumble recoveries and an interception.  Under Brown's direction, Troy corner Bryan Willis ranked 13th in the conference in passes defended and T.J. Bryant was second in the league in fumble recoveries.

Brown will work with Harsin for the second time of his career, also spending time on the Boise State staff for four of the five seasons Harsin was the Broncos' offensive coordinator.  Prior to his arrival at Troy, Brown spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons as Boise State's Director of Player Personnel.

During those two seasons, Brown's responsibilities included working as the on-campus recruiting coordinator, organizing official and unofficial visits for recruits and their families, overseeing the football recruiting and scholarship budgets, assisting the director of football operations with summer camps, acting as a liaison with the department's academic support team and representing the football program at campus and community events.

The 2007 and 2008 seasons saw Brown serve as a graduate assistant coach on the Boise State staff.  He worked with wide receivers and also served as the assistant director of football operations during that time.

Before joining Boise State, Brown spent one season coaching defensive backs at Boise's Capital High School.  He helped lead the Eagles to the state playoffs in his lone season at Capital.

Brown was a three-year starter and four-year letterman as a defensive back for Boise State from 2000-03, also playing while Harsin was on the Broncos' coaching staff.  Brown was a member of the 2002 and 2003 WAC championship teams and helped lead Boise State to wins in the 2002 Crucial.com Humanitarian Bowl and the 2003 Plains Capital Fort Worth bowl.  He was an Honorable Mention All-WAC choice as a senior after leading the league in passes defended.

"Coach Brown has a well-rounded background, from a coaching aspect to operations to experience as a player," said ASU Head Football Coach Bryan Harsin.  "I saw first-hand at Boise State that he was an outstanding coach, but he's also been successful and done a great job everywhere he has been.  He will be another outstanding addition to our coaching staff."

Brown, a native of Stockton, Calif., is a 2006 graduate of Boise State with a degree in business administration.
