HUNTSVILLE, Texas (12/4/2011) — The Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished second after the final day of competition at the Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State on Sunday.
ASU went undefeated through its first 10 games of the tournament heading into Sunday’s final day of play, which consisted of bracket play in a baker format.
The Red Wolves lost to Sam Houston State 4-2 in the opening round of the bracket competition, but bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Nebraska to advance to the championship match against the Bearkatz. In the championship match A-State struggled early and the Bearkatz took advantage on their way to a 4-0 victory.
“We didn’t bowl bad at all,” ASU head bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “We bowled a really good tournament and just caught a few bad breaks in the championship match that we couldn’t recover from.”
Amanda Labossierre earned all-tournament honors after finishing fourth in the individual standings with a 218.6 average. A-State finished the tournament with an 11-2 record and now stands 29-11 heading into the fall break.
“We feel good about where we are at this point,” Kostick said. “You always see room for improvement but overall I think we have done well.”
ASU will return to action Jan. 13-15 when they host the Mid-Winter Invitational at the Jonesboro Bowling Center.
