JONESBORO, Ark. (10/4/19) – One of the nation’s premier cross country meets will feature the Arkansas State cross country teams on Saturday, as the Red Wolves trek across the state to Fayetteville for the 31st-annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.

Hosted at the University of Arkansas cross country course, the nationally-recognized meet is also the site of the 2019 NCAA South Regional Championships on November 15. The Red Wolves will race first in the first heat of the men’s 8K at 9 a.m. before the women take to the course in the first 5K heat at 10:40 a.m.

On the men’s side, two teams ranked in the current USTFCCCA top 30 are part of the field in eighth-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 25 Arkansas. The A-State women will race against the second-ranked Razorbacks as well as Oklahoma State’s 19th-ranked women’s squad. Texas will also run against the Red Wolves, receiving votes on both the men’s and women’s sides.

This meet also features several regional and Sun Belt Conference foes, including league counterparts Texas State, UT Arlington, ULM and Little Rock. Ten opponents are ranked among the top 15 in the region on the men’s side – Arkansas (No. 1), Texas (No. 2), Rice (No. 3) North Texas (No. 5), UTA (No. 6), Lamar (No. 7), Texas State (No. 10), Baylor (No. 11), UT-Rio Grande Valley (No. 12) and Central Arkansas (No. 13). For the women, seven foes enter the weekend inside the regional top 15 – Arkansas (No. 1), Texas (No. 2), Baylor (No. 5), Rice (No. 7), Incarnate Word (No. 8), Texas State (No. 13), UTRGV (No. 14) and UTA (No. 15).
