COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (9/16/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis was a perfect 6-0 in doubles’ play as the squad concluded play in the Air Force Invitational hosted by the Air Force Academy.

Kirsty Venter and Shannon O'Brien took home a flight title in the No. 3 singles bracket with a pair of victories over Meredith Laskey and Camryn Deames of Air Force and Annie Walker and Sarah Cheverie of Montana State. In the semifinals against Air Force, the A-State moved on with an 8-5 victory and followed with a 8-3 win in the finals for the tournament champions.

“Overall it was a great first weekend for us,” A-State head coach Kel Lange said. “We played really well in doubles’ draws and really played well in the singles’ bracket against some really good competition.

In the top doubles’ bracket, Anita Detlava and Berta Masdevall Masip won the consolation bracket with an 8-6 win over the Montana State pairing of Emma Podeur and Laura Mary, followed by and a thrilling 9-7 outcome against Camila Wesbrooks and Gitte Heynemans of Arizona.

In the No. 2 doubles brackets, Shelby King and Sabina Jeresic defeated Angelina Philippova and Enni Zander of Montana State in the semifinals before the Southern Utah pair retired in the consolation bracket finals.

In the singles’ bracket Shannon O’Brien won her consolation by defeating Philippova 6-2, 6-1 in the finals of the No. 4 singles draw. Allison Quammen also won her draw with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 over Clarissa Jolley (Air Force) in the No. 7 singles draw.

The Red Wolves return to action Sept. 22-23 at the Central Arkansas Invitational.
