JONESBORO, Ark. (8/4/17) – Four regular season meets will be on tap when the Arkansas State cross country teams begin their 2017 schedule Sept. 2 at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Run.
The Red Wolves will then run in the Sept. 16 Rhodes Invite, followed by the Sept. 30 Greater Louisville Classic. The regular season wraps up Oct. 14 with student-athletes competing at the Pre-Nationals Invite or the UALR Invite.
The Sun Belt Conference Championships are scheduled for Oct. 28 in Boone, N.C., with the South Central Regional set for Nov. 10 in College Station, Texas. Louisville will host the 2017 NCAA Championships Nov. 18.
The A-State women's team is coming off a sixth place finish at the Sun Belt Championships while the men's team was seventh at the league championships last season.
“Last year we were a very young team, but the group was outstanding in their efforts in improving and gained valuable experience,” A-State cross country coach Kyle Chandler said. “While we will still be a young team this year, I expect to see several individuals - returning and new - that will help the women's team move up the Sun Belt standings by season's end.”
“This will be by far our biggest men's distance recruiting class and a good number of them will have immediate impact on the top seven,” Chandler said. “It should be an interesting fall to see how this plays out. We will certainly rely upon Rickus Jacobs and Heinrich Herbst to provide leadership with their proven performance backgrounds, which should make for a fun and competitive season. “
Fans are encouraged to attend time trails ahead of the 2017 season at the A-State Track & Field Complex. The first of two trials is scheduled for August 18 with the women running at 7:15 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. The final tune-up is August 25 with the men beginning at 7:15 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.
