JONESBORO, Ark. (8/31/17) – The Arkansas State women’s cross country team was selected fifth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll and the men were selected sixth as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Reigning SBC women’s champion Appalachian State topped the poll. Coastal Carolina, UT Arlington and South Alabama join the A-State women in the top-five. Three-time defending champion UT Arlington was picked first in the men’s poll. Louisiana, Texas State, Appalachian State and South Alabama were chosen ahead of the Red Wolves.

A-State is scheduled to open the 2017 cross country season Saturday night at the Memphis Twilight Classic contested at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

“We always look forward to this first meet of the season to shake off the dust and begin seeing what the season might hold,” said A-State cross country head coach Kyle Chandler. “For the men, we have a lot of freshmen so this will be their first collegiate experience, which will be fun for them, and also our first glimpse into their potential impact this season. For the women, we have a nice blend of returnees and new freshmen. They have begun working well in practice this past week so it will be good to see if that translates into the race Saturday night.”

Results from the Memphis Twilight will be posted as soon as possible on following competition Saturday night.
